The first National Congress of Endometriosis Society, India was held in collaboration with the All India Co-ordinating Committee, East Zone, Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, London on December 10-12, 2004 at Science City and Peerless Hospital in Kolkata. We must say this programme was a grand success. Over 300 gynaecologists participated from all corners of India and foreign countries who enjoyed stimulating scientific sessions, delicious dinners and charming cruise on river Ganga. Five esteemed international delegates, Mr. Stephen Kennedy from UK, Dr. Peter Koliba from Checz Republic, Dr. G. D. Reid from Australia, Ms. Lone Hummelshoj from UK and Dr. Rokeya Begum from Bangladesh graced the programme. Glimpses of the programme: Day 1, December 10, 2004: Live workshop on endometriosis surgery was conducted in Peerless Hospital in morning. Dr. Peter Koliba, Dr. U.P. Jha, Dr. P. J. Kotdawalla participated in the workshop. The Inaugural Programme took place in the evening in Science City. It comprised of guest lectures, public awareness programme and a gorgeous cultural programme. The public awareness programme was oriented towards an easy understanding of endometriosis by common people and an audience of about 500 witnessed it. Day 2, December 11, 2004: Delegates observed eighteen scientific sessions and two keynote addresses which were held in three auditoriums of Science City. The evening was scheduled for a contributory river cruise over Ganges. It was a combination of hot drinks and food with chilling breeze of a December night. Day 3, December 12, 2004: The final day was a surgeons' day. Dr. Peter Koliba, Dr. G. D. Reid, Prof. M. Banerjee, Mr. P. Das Mahapatra, Dr. P. Tribedi, Dr. K. D. Bakshi, Dr. T. N. Das, Dr. N. Pipara and others participated in the whole day operative session. The operations included a host of laparoscopic, hysteroscopic and conventional operations and new intervention techniques like TVT, Insertion of Mirena TM. The programme ended with a touching valedictory session.
